History/Overview
The Hyundai Elantra is a household name in Canada’s compact car market, but this well-known compact sedan is a relative newcomer in the sport sedan class, despite a well-sorted turbocharged N-Line trim level that adds a dose of speed to an otherwise unexciting vehicle.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
The Elantra enters a new era for 2022 with the addition of an N trim level, which turns this economy car into a sport sedan conceived and designed for racetrack duty.
Available Trims
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra N comes in a single trim level. Your only choice is whether to connect the 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine to a six-speed manual or an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Other Elantra trims are covered in separate buyer’s guide entries.
Standard Features
Every Elantra N comes with an electronically controlled suspension, 19-inch wheels, passive keyless entry, hands-free trunk, and LED headlights with high beam assist. Inside, you get a sunroof, suede/leatherette heated front sport seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, dual-zone A/C, a heated steering wheel, digital gauges, and wireless phone charging.
Safety kit includes forward collision mitigation, blind spot/rear cross traffic collision avoidance, lane keeping/following assist, driver attention warning, rear parking sensors, and safe exit warning.
Fuel Economy
Hyundai’s fuel consumption estimates for the Elantra N are 10.9/7.7 L/100 km (city/highway) with the six-speed manual transmission, and 12.1/7.9 L/100 km with the eight-speed automatic.
Competition
With the Elantra N, Hyundai enters a toe-to-toe fight against cars like the VW Golf R, GTI and GLI; the Subaru WRX; Honda Civic Si and Type R; and the Korean brand’s own Veloster N, with which the Elantra shares its powertrain.
